Verrucae: virus structure, localization of antigens, and comparison with the Shope papilloma.
نویسنده
چکیده
The fine structure of the human wart virus is compared with that of the Shope rabbit papilloma virus. The distribu tion of the viral antigens within the human wart, as determined by immunofluorescence, is described and compared with the distribution of the viral antigens in the rabbit papilloma. The distribution of viral particles in the two lesions, as determined by electron microscopy, is also compared.

Fluorescent Antibody Detection of the Antigens of the Shope Papilloma Virus in Papillomas of the Wild and Domestic Rabbit
The results obtained by a fluorescent antibody study of the Shope papilloma virus in papillomas of the wild and domestic rabbit are presented. In the wild rabbit papillomas the viral antigens occurred exclusively in the nucleus and were present in the differentiating cells of the keratohyaline layers and in the keratinized layers. The antigens were not present in the deeper proliferating epithe...
متن کاملStudies on the Shope Rabbit Papilloma Virus
A method has been devised to determine the location of infective Shope virus in the papillomas of cottontail rabbits. Frozen sections of the growths were burned selectively with a microcautery to destroy either the keratinized or proliferating layer and the sections were then applied directly to the sensitized epidermis of domestic rabbits. No papillomas appeared when the keratohyaline and kera...
متن کاملThe Superinfection of the Rabbit Papilloma (shope) by Extraneous Viruses
1. The potentialities that viruses have for the superinfection of virus tumors have not been recognized nor has the fact that a single cell can harbor more than one virus. 2. Rabbit papillomas, induced by the papilloma virus (Shope), were superinfected by B virus, myxoma virus, vaccinia virus, and probably, virus III. Similar attempts at superinfection by herpes virus were without success. The ...
متن کاملCellular Retinole Acid-binding Protein in Virus-induced Shope Papillomas of Rabbit Skin1
Cellular retinole acid-binding protein (cRABP) was detected in the cytosol of virus-induced papilloma (Shope) of rabbit skin. The Shope papilloma cRABP showed the same ligand specific ity and sedimentation value (2S) as was found in other animal species. The level of cRABP in the papillomatous tissue was significantly higher than that in the normal rabbit skin and increased in accordance with t...
متن کاملInduction of neoplasia in vitro with a virus; experiments with rabbit skin grown in tissue culture and treated with Shope papilloma virus.
Since neoplasia has been induced in tissue culture by means of a chemical carcinogen (5), the question arises whether similar neoplastic transformation of cells in vitro can be brought about by other types of carcinogens, such as viruses. This question was answered by successfully growing epidermis of the domestic rabbit in tissue culture and then inoculating it with the Shope papilloma virus. ...
